PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination and color management system including a plurality of coloring sources and a plurality of color sensors, the number of coloring sources being greater than that of color sensors; and to provide an illumination and color management method. SOLUTION: In one embodiment, the method comprises a step of emitting light having a plurality of colors from at least two of the coloring sources, the plurality of colors being different in intensity of light emitted from the plurality of coloring sources. The colors of the light emitted from at least two coloring sources are detected by using at least one color sensor. The color rendering index of each of the plurality of emitted colors is detected. The color of the light emitted from a light source is selected. To achieve the selected color of the light, the intensity of light emitted from the coloring source is selected at least partially in accordance with the color rendering index.
