The chuck for rotating tools (10) having a cylindrical shank (9) has a supporting body (1), which can be connected to the spindle of a machine tool, and a tool holder (7) which is connected in a centred manner to the supporting body (1) and has a concentric, cylindrical location bore (8) for accommodating the tool shank (9). A clamping roller (14) is mounted with considerable clearance in a transverse bore (13) adjoining the cylindrical location bore (8) and running perpendicularly to the location bore (8). In the tool holder (7), a clamping slide (17) is mounted in an axially displaceable manner in a bearing bore (16) running parallel to the location bore (8). The clamping slide (17) has a clamping surface (18) running at an acute angle ( mu ) to its axis and bearing against the clamping roller (14). Provided in the tool holder (7) is a chucking device (20, 22, 25, 26) with which a chucking force acting essentially in the axial direction of the clamping slide (17) can be produced on the latter.
