PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent article having an improved function of preventing excrement leakage by increasing the height of three-dimensional gathers by urination after being worn. SOLUTION: The absorbent article 10 is provided with upright gathers 6 along each of the both sides of the absorber 2 in an article body 16, the article body 16 having a liquid permeable top sheet 3, a back sheet 1 and an absorber 2 disposed between the both sheets. The upright gathers 6 are erected obliquely inward, and each sheet 4 forming the upright gathers is fixed to the article body at the upright gather base portion or a first fixing portion 9 disposed closer to the side of fixing end 18 of the sheet forming the upright gathers, than the gathers, and has a second fixing portion 8 fixed to the article body 16 and peelable by the moisture of urination at a portion closer to the side of a free end 17 of the sheet forming the upright gathers than the first fixing portion 9.
