784,667. Spring winding mechanisms. STAMFORD METALLICS, Ltd. Dec. 16, 1955, No. 36184/55. Class 10. The spring 3 of a toy motor car is wound by pulling a cord 15 which in the spring unwound position shown is wrapped around a drum 9. The drum is freely mounted, along with discs 13, 12, 11 on the winding spindle of the spring whilst a disc 10 is fixedly attached to the spindle. The discs 13, 12, 11, 10 are provided with respective lugs 13a, 12a, 11a, 10a, the lugs 12a, 11a, 10a being bent into the rotational paths of lugs 13a, 12a, 11a respectively whilst the lug 13a is upright and in the path of a lug 14 fixedly attached to the drum. Drive from the spring to the rear axle of the toy is through clutch 5, gear wheel 4 and transmission 7, 6, 8. Pulling the cord 15 effects clockwise rotation of the drum 9 and, through interengagement of lugs 14, 13a, 12a, 11a, 10a, rotation of the spindle 2. Three revolutions of the drum fully winds the spring 3 and loads a spring 17 which, by its connection to drum and spring frame 1 effects, on release of the cord, re-winding of the latter around the drum. Three anti-clockwise revolutions of the drum are possible for this purpose as the drum and disc 13 move through one revolution before lug 13a abuts lug 12a, the drum and discs 13 and 12 move through a further revolution before lug 12a abuts lug 11a, and, finally drum 9 and discs 13, 12 and 11 move through a third revolution before the cord rewinding movement is arrested by the abutting of lugs 11a and 10a. On release of the spring 3 the spindle 2 moves through three anti-clockwise revolutions and causes, thereby, the discs 13, 12, 11 and 10 to once again take up the positions shown. The number of discs used may be varied depending upon the number of revolutions of the spindle 2 required to fully wind the spring 3. |
