PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device permitting comfortable steering operation if a driver quickly turns a steering wheel when a transfer ratio is quickened in a low speed range. SOLUTION: In the steering device 1, the transmission ratio of the steering angle of the steering wheel 4 to the turning angle of a turning wheel is varied by a variable gear ratio mechanism 2, and the assisting force for steering is generated by an electric power steering 3. The steering device 1 has a switching part for switching a mode between a ratio regulating mode to set the rotation angle of a differential gear motor 2a used in the variable gear ratio mechanism 2 so that the transmission ratio is set at a target ratio according to the vehicle speed, and a steering torque regulating mode to reduce the electric current for driving the differential gear motor 2a so that the steering force of the steering wheel 4 is reduced.
