340,459. Making paper bags, envelopes, &c. WINKLER, A., and DœNNEBIER, Neuwied, Germany. April 9, 1930, No.11334. Convention date, April 9, 1929. [Class 94 (ii).] The gummed closure flaps V of flat bags, envelopes &c. are prevented from curling by maintaining the bags &c. in a bent condition while e they traverse the drying track. The arrangement also causes the bottom flap B to be firmly pressed against the body R of the bag. Bags are fed between rollers 18, 19 immediately after the application of the gum to the closure flaps, each bag being brought by a conveyer 16 and reciprocating roller device 26,17 to a position between curved tonglike members 7, 8 previously opened out to receive it. The tongs 7, 8 are mounted on spindles 6 between the links 3 of parallel drying chains, one tongmember 8 being pivotally mounted on the spindle 6 and urged by a torsion spring against the other. As the dryer chains pass around spockets 2, a fixed cam 22 engages arms 13 on the tong-members 8 to open the tongs to receive the bag. The tongmembers 7, 8 are recessed to accommodate the conveyer 16. Another cam (not shown) opens the tongs when the drying is complete to permit the discharge of the bags. |
