PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cobalt adsorbent comprising potassium titanate capable of adsorbing a large amount of cobalt in high-temperature water, and a method for preparing the same. SOLUTION: The cobalt adsorbent comprising a potassium titanate prepared by treating titanium tetraalkoxide and an aqueous solution of potassium hydroxide in high-temperature water of a temperature of 300 to 450°C is comprised of potassium hexatitanate of a basic structure represented by formula: Ti<SB>6</SB>O<SB>13</SB>-<SB>x</SB>K (wherein x represents a number from 1 to 2), and has a fibrous configuration. The cobalt adsorbent is easily prepared by subjecting a mixture of an alkoxide of titanium and an aqueous solution of potassium hydroxide to a hydrothermal treatment, isolating the resulting precipitate by filtration, washing the isolated precipitate with water, and drying the washed precipitate. Thereby, the cobalt adsorbent having an excellent cobalt-adsorbing capacity in high-temperature water of about 200°C can be obtained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
