The device has an opening arranged on an upper part of a rectangular fuel tank (T) to form a hearth (FP) of the device. An extinguisher is placed on the upper part of the tank, and is formed by a removable blade (BL) that is displaced in a manner to hide the opening and to suppress flame of combustion from liquid fuel. An automatic control unit controls displacement of the blade. The unit has a driving servomotor (SM) coupled to the blade, and supplied with electric power by a battery (PS). A seismic detector (C3) of the unit detects the displacement of the blade.
