There is provided a remote control device that comprises means for generating values of a sequential series of operator input values and means for communicating only a final value of the sequential series of operator input values to control a host device. Also disclosed is a method comprising the steps of storing an indicator of a current operating function, activating an, initiating a timer when a control address is requested, displaying an indication of the control address in association with the indicator representative of the function, storing the control address in memory, repeating the above control address request related steps until the timer expires and communicating the last control address to a remotely controlled decoder.
