PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for feeding a wire, which reduces a supply time of the wire by repeating the automatic supply of the wire by making a wire electrode straight by the elastic force of the wire electrode by releasing the gripped state of the wire electrode of a wire electrode feeding roller in the state where the wire electrode has come into contact with an obstacle. SOLUTION: In the method for feeding the wire, an abutting sensor 20 detects that the tip end of the wire electrode 1 has come into contact with any obstacle among an upper head 3, a workpiece 2, and a lower head 4. In response to this, the gripping of the wire electrode 1 by a wire electrode feeding roller 10 is released, and the abutting state of the wire electrode 1 with the obstacle is released. Succeedingly, the wire electrode 1 is gripped by the wire electrode feeding roller 10, and the wire electrode 1 is automatically supplied by driving the wire electrode feeding roller 10.
