ROAD SURFACE CONDITION ESTIMATION DEVICE FOR VEHICLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To estimate a dry/wet condition of a remote road surface more precisely by eliminating an effect from the surrounding environment to the utmost when estimating the dry/wet condition of the remote road surface on the basis of brightness of the remote road surface. SOLUTION: A threshold value for determination is set on the basis of road surface moisture within a prescribed distance from the own vehicle detected by a sensor 3 and the road surface brightness within the prescribed distance from the own vehicle detected by a sensor 2. The road surface condition to be the dry/wet condition of the remote road surface is estimated by comparing the brightness of the remote road surface spaced apart from the own vehicle by the prescribed distance detected by a sensor 1 or longer, with the threshold value for determination.
