PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a humidifier capable of taking effective action on a water-holding means at an optimum timing with a simple structure. SOLUTION: This humidifier comprises the water-holding means 11, a water supply means 4 for keeping the water-holding means 11 in a moist state, an air distributing means 15 for bringing the air sucked from a room into contact with the water-holding means in the moist state, and distributing the humidified air into the room, a humidity sensor 50 detecting a humidity of the indoor air, a water level detecting means 21 for detecting a water level of the water supply means 4, and a control device 41 performing humidification by controlling the air distributing means 15 on the basis of set information of an operating portion 5 for setting operational conditions and the like. A drying operation setting means 63 is disposed to execute a drying operation for drying the water-holding means 11 by controlling the air distributing means 15, and the control device 41 executes the drying operation on the basis of an input signal from the drying operation setting means only during a time when it detects that the water level of the water supply means 4 is less than a prescribed level on the basis of a signal from the water level detecting means 21.
