PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator capable of reducing the number of cutting works for the elongation of a wire rope, and simply and safely ensuring the predetermined clearance while enhancing the working efficiency when performing the works and paying attention to the working safety of workers. SOLUTION: The elevator comprises a car 3 elevated/lowered in a hoistway 6, a car sheave-fitting beam 3a connected to the car 3, a car sheave 3b fitted to the sheave-fitting beam 3a with a wire rope 2 wound therearound, a hoisting machine 5 for elevating/lowering the car 3 by feeding the wire rope 2, and a balancing weight 4 connected to the wire rope 2 wound around the hoisting machine 5.
