The claims are directed to an I.C. engine induction air flow control device comprising an air intake conduit having an inlet 28 for air at ambient temperature and an auxiliary inlet 32 downstream thereof for heated air, an air flow damper assembly mounted on a pivot pin 44 for movement between a first position obstructing flow through the inlet 28 while permitting flow through the auxiliary inlet 32 and a second position permitting flow through the inlet 28 while obstructing flow through the auxiliary inlet, the damper assembly including a lever 40 and a damper member 42 which are independently pivoted on the pin, but are biased by a spring 48 for concomitant movement. A thermoresponsive device 62 downstream of both inlets has an arm 58 engaging the lever 40 to bias the damper assembly towards the first position at temperatures below a selected value and permit movement of the assembly towards the second position at higher temperatures, the damper member being movable toward the second position independently of the lever 40 and against the bias of spring 48 by air flow.</p> |
