The picture hanging device comprises a plastics strip (14) which is attached to the wall (12) by nails which pass through holes provided in the ends of the horizontal strip. The back of the horizontal strip (14) has grooves 14a, 14b along which a second vertical strip (15) can be displaced. This second strip has integral teeth (17) for hanging a picture at different points along the length of the strip, these elementss being mounted along a line running at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the first horizontal strip (14). A picture can thereby be displaced both horizontally and verticaly along the relative axis of the strips without danger of tilting merely by displacing the second strip relative to the first and by altering the position from which the picture is hung on the second strip.
