PURPOSE:To obtain a display device which reduces suspending capacity and which can reduce a leaking current between a source electrode and a drain electrode by forming a light shielding layer whose shape is the same as an insulating layer formed in a area between the source electrode and the drain electrode just above a semiconductor layer from the planar point of view on a protecting layer. CONSTITUTION:A picture element electrode 10 and a thin film transistor which is connected to the electrode 10 and which has the source electrode 8, the drain electrode 9 and the semiconductor layer 5 are provided in a matrix state on one substrate 1 of a set of insulating substrates 1 and 2. The protecting film 11 is formed on the whole surface so as to cover the electrode 10 and the thin film transistor and the light shielding film 15 whose shape is the same as the insulating layer 6 provided just above the semiconductor layer 5 in the area between the electrode 8 and the electrode 9 from the planar point of view is provided on the film 11. Thus, the suspending capacity formed between the electrode 8 and the electrode 9, a gate electrode 3 and the film 15 is reduced. Besides, the leaking current flowing between the electrode 8 and the electrode 9 through the film 11 and film 15 is also reduced. |
