PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative charge type toner which is a spherical negative charge type toner using polyester resin particles as toner base particles, and which ensures neither toner leakage nor toner scattering in a development device, gives a printed image free of unevenness, and does not cause lowering of print density, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The negative charge type toner is obtained by externally adding a plurality of hydrophobed external additives to spherical polyester resin particles containing colored particles, wherein at least negative charge type silicon oxide particles, rodlike polyhedral hexagonal zinc oxide particles obtained by evaporating metal zinc with plasma and oxidizing the resultant vapor, and titanium oxide particles are externally added as the external additives.
