PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve efficiency of a regenerator by actively preventing overlapping of protrusions in a regenerator for a Stirling engine composed by winding films and forming gaps for passing working gas by protrusions formed by embossing on the films. SOLUTION: The Stirling engine 1 moves the working gas between a compression space 45 and an expansion space 46 by a piston 12 and a displacer 13. In the regenerator 70 arranged between the compression space 45 and the expansion space 46, the films 71a and 71b dotted with the protrusions 72 formed by embossing on one faces are doubled and cylindrically wound, and the gaps for passing the working gas are formed throughout multiple layers. The protrusions 72 of the films 71a and 71b are arranged in mutually deviated positions such that the protrusions 72 between adjacent layers do not overlap. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
