<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article control system and an article control method capable of performing the adequate article control by converting the color of a detection material into physical information according to the kind of the detection material attached to an article. <P>SOLUTION: A physical information conversion means is selected, which reads information by the kind of a detection material from a recording area present in an IC tag 101, and converts the color into physical information according to the read information on the kind of the detection material. Next, the color indicated by the detection material is measured; the movement indicated by the detection material is converted by the selected physical information conversion means.
