PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling reaction temperature, which exhibits excellent performance when used for controlling the reaction temperature of an exothermic liquid phase reaction and to provide a reaction apparatus suitable for the method for controlling reaction temperature. SOLUTION: The reaction apparatus 1 is provided with: a liquid phase reaction tank 2 in the liquid phase of which the exothermic reaction is performed; a reaction system circulation line (a reaction solution withdrawing line 5, a reaction solution recovering line 6) for circulating a reaction solution 22 through the outside of the liquid phase reaction tank 2; a heat exchanger (a first heat exchanger) 7 arranged in the middle of the reaction system circulation line; a heating medium circulation line (a first heating medium supplying line 8, a first heating medium recovering line 9) for circulating a heating medium of a vapor-liquid equilibrium state through the heat exchanger 7; and a control means (a temperature sensor 10, a first heating medium discharge controlling valve 11, a first heating medium replenishment controlling valve 12) for controlling the pressure in the heating medium circulation line on the basis of the temperature of a reaction system in the liquid phase reaction tank 2. The reaction solution to be circulated or refluxed through the outside of the liquid phase reaction tank 2 is cooled by the heating medium of the vapor-liquid equilibrium state and the temperature of the reaction solution is controlled by the pressure of the heating medium.
