1280204 Milling cutters SANDVIKENS JERNVERKS AB 11 July 1969 [12 July 1968] 35097/69 Heading B3K In a milling cutter having inserts 9 supported at their edges against locating members 15 ... 18 in recesses 14, each insert is clamped against a support face 13 of the recess by a spring- actuated clamping device 12, 22, 23, which exerts a force sufficient to retain the inserts in operation against centrifugal force but allows the cutting forces to urge the insert against the locating members. The included angle of the locating members is slightly smaller than the corresponding angle of the insert (Figs. 4-7, not shown) so that the cutting insert can automatically adopt one of two alternative positions depending on whether the milling cutteris used for finish cutting or rough cutting. The locating points 15... 18 may be provided by hardened pins, balls or cylinders or straight line contact surfaces. The pull rods 22 of the clamping devices project at the rear of the cutter and may be depressed to release the inserts, a shoulder 44 formed on each rod 22 serving to eject the insert. |
