PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for a vehicle which detects and controls a preceding area state highly accurately by always detecting the distance to a preceding vehicle or an obstacle, regardless of a change of a road surface state. SOLUTION: This control device for the vehicle is equipped with a preceding area state detection means for detecting existence of a preceding vehicle or an obstacle ahead of the vehicle by a radar; and a vehicle control means for controlling the vehicle corresponding to the preceding area state detected by the preceding area state detection means. The device is also equipped with a pitching amount detection means for detecting a pitching amount generated in the vehicle, and an irradiation angle control means for controlling an irradiation angle of the radar corresponding to the pitching amount detected by the pitching amount detection means.
