PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a judging device capable of securely judging the presence of abnormalities in an ink cartridge when an ink cartridge is mounted on a recorder. SOLUTION: A cartridge-mounting part 276 has a photosensor 230 and a limit switch 235. When an ink cartridge 10 is inserted into the cartridge-mounting part 276, a cover 220 is detected by the photosensor 230 (S1), and an inclined part 122 is detected by the limit switch 235 (S3). A main control part 200 calculates the time differenceΔT of each detection timing of the cover 220 and the inclined part 122 based on each output signal of the photosensor 230 and the limit switch 235 (S5). Then, the main control part 200 judges that the ink cartridge 10 is normal when the calculated time differenceΔT is a predetermined standard value or more and that the ink cartridge 10 unusual when theΔT is less than the standard value (S6).
