PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device capable of further shortening the time required from start to end of original reading based on an original reading instruction from a user in comparison with conventional devices. SOLUTION: The ACS function part of an image processing part 309 in the automatic original carrying part 100 of the image reading device determines whether the reading source of image data read by an original rear surface reading part 17 is a black/white original or a color original. When transmitting the image data in an image memory 329 to a controller part 400 is started, the CPU 321 of a reader part 200 transmits black/white image data by a controller I/F part 353 when the reading source of image data read by the original rear surface reading part 17 is the black/white original, and transmits color image data by the controller I/F part 353 when the reading source of image data read by the original rear surface reading part 17 is the color original.
