PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique relating to a data representation method which saves a manifold inherent surface shape at a permissible grade and is suitable for pattern classification, and a pattern identification method utilizing the above data representation method. SOLUTION: Label data indicating a class to which the processing data belongs is input together with the processing data belonging to respective different classes (S20). A distance relationship between each input processing data is obtained (S22). A degree of separation between classes between classes are set (S23). Information which shows distance relationship is updated based on the label data and information indicating the degree of separation between classes (S24).
