PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic labeling apparatus and an automatic labeling method which allow identical bar code labels to be pasted efficiently on both tire axial ends of a tire raw cover and prevent the pasting of different bar code labels. SOLUTION: The automatic labeling apparatus includes a pair of label pasting machines 5 and 5 having suction pads 4 that paste bar code labels X on both tire axial ends 2E of the tire raw cover 2 held laterally on a raw cover holding block 3, and a check means 6 which checks the bar code labels X to determine whether the bar code labels X are identical at a stage prior to the suction of the labels X by the suction pads 4. Each label pasting machine 5 has a rolling back means 23 which rolls back a label sheet 20 intermittently from a roll 21 pivoted at a roll support means 22, a pasting tool 25 having the suction pad 4 that sucks the bar code label X from the rolled back label sheet 20 at a suction position P0, and a bar code reader 26 which reads the bar code label X at a first position P1 upstream of the suction position P0.
