PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microscope in which a zoom handle can be manually operated without operating a motor-driven/manual switch and a clutch mechanism. SOLUTION: When a zoom handle 82 is manually rotated, a zoom handle shaft 81 is rotated. Since a torque value of a torque limiter 90 is set smaller than a torque value to manually rotate the zoom handle 82, slip is generated between an outer ring 90b and an inner ring 90c of the torque limiter 90, then, the rotation of the zoom handle shaft 81 is not transmitted to a stepping motor 92. The rotation of the zoom handle shaft 81 is transmitted to a cam shaft 84 through bevel gears 83a and 83b. Cam followers 55a and 56a engaged with cam grooves 84a and 84b of the cam shaft 84 are moved along guide bars 61, 62 and 63 in an optical axis direction.
