PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for applying burnable poison to a nuclear fuel rod (2). SOLUTION: One or two or more kinds of oxides and/or surface deposit present on the external surface of the nuclear fuel rod (2) are optionally removed by preparing the nuclear fuel rod (2) and one or more applicator (8), revolving the nuclear fuel rod (2) and spraying abrasives over the rod (2) via the applicator (8) while adjusting its position to the rod (2), and particles (33) of the burnable poison are applied to the external surface (6) of the nuclear fuel rod (2) by spraying the burnable poison over the rod (2) via the applicator (8) while adjusting the position of it to the nuclear fuel rod (2).
