PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact authentication apparatus being easily handled and capable of reducing cost to prevent electronic equipment from being illicitly utilized due to theft or loss and to provide an authentication method. SOLUTION: This authentication apparatus 1 is provided with a storage means 11 for storing the set and specified position information, a GPS receiving means 12 for receiving GPS information, and a checking means 13 for checking the information related to current position obtained from the GPS information received by the GPS receiving means 12 against the specified position information stored in the storage means 11 and outputting a check agreement signal when the information related to the current position agrees with the specified position information as a result of check.
