A method and a device for checking a ratio of damaged data are provided to enable a user to check the ratio of a deleted file before deletion of the file by checking validity of clusters forming the deleted file and enable the user to restore the desired deleted file among the deleted files after the user checks the ratio of the deleted files. A file information searcher(620) searches deleted files, and a validity checker(630) checks validity of clusters forming each deleted file. A damage ratio calculator(640) calculates a ratio of each deleted file based on a validity determination result. A display unit(650) displays the ratio of each deleted file. A file system checker(610) checks whether a file system is an FAT(File Allocation Table) or NTFS(New Technique File System) file system by detecting/using sector information and a value of a boot sector. A file restoring unit restores the deleted file by storing data written in the clusters of the deleted file to other recording area.
