PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly accurately specify the position of the face of a person in a face recognition imaging device for specifying the position of the face of the person by detecting a red eye part from a picked-up image. SOLUTION: A microprocessor calculates a distance from the face recognition imaging apparatus for each object part from a plurality of unit images to prepare a distance image (S1), and detects red circular parts (red eye candidate parts) in the unit image (S2). The combinations of two red eye candidate parts each are extracted from the detected red eye candidate parts (S3), whether or not the interval (apparent interval) of the two red eye candidate parts in the combination is within a prescribed range compared to a standard interval is judged (S4), and when it is within the prescribed range (YES in S4), a face area is detected around the two red eye candidate parts (S5). When it is off the prescribed range (NO in S4), whether or not judgement is ended for all the combinations is judged (S6), and when it is not ended (NO in S6), the judgement in S4 is performed for the next combination.
