PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic document management system, an electronic document management method, a program and a recording medium for specifically and efficiently performing an operation for designating a character string in text and specifying its content, such as a search operation. SOLUTION: A basic image configuring part 11 creates an electronic document and converts it into an image as a basic image. For the basic image printed by a basic image printing part 21 as instructed by the user, a keyword portion which it is desired to designate is designated by marking from among a group of keywords displayed as a list, and this printed matter corrected is inputted using a scanner to a document management system; the image is taken in by an image taking part 12 that is the first part of an operating part 2; after an image that shows the difference between the basic image and the image taken in is created by a difference image configuring part 22, a positional relationship on the electronic document that corresponds to the image remaining as a difference and the basic image is checked by a keyword extracting part 32.
