900,109. Flock-coated fabric. MANUFACTURE DE FEUTRES DE MOUZONANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS R. SOMMER & SES FILS. March 10, 1959 [March 11, 1958], No. 8189/59. Class 140. A flock-coated fabric comprising a support formed of woven material or felt having flocked fibres on one face interlocked and united with the support by an adhesive substance surrounding the base of the flocked fibres and portions of the fibres of the support having interstices therein between the fibres for the passage of air, is formed by coating the support with foamed latex 5, projecting fibres 6 upon said latex, causing the foamed latex to collapse by bursting the air bubbles therein to produce a homogeneous fluid mass 7 which is distributed by capillarity about the flocked fibres and the fibres 3, 4 of the support thereby uniting the fibres and allowing the formation of interstices, and thereafter vulcanizing the whole. The latex may be of natural or synthetic rubber. The flocked fibres may be relatively long, for example, of the order of 4 millimetres or more. The rate of foam collapse may be adjusted by controlled addition of a stabilizer or wetting agent to the foam according to the nature and previous treatments of the fibres of the support.
|
