The sensor unit (210) has a solid electrolyte (212), an inner electrode (214) and an outer electrode (216), where the inner electrode is separated from a gas area (234) and a reference gas area (236) over a diaphragm (242). The diaphragm is selectively permeable for a gas component, and is impermeable against fuel gas e.g. hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The diaphragm has a mixed electronic/ionic conductor and a material used as a material of the solid electrolyte.
