Many installed generator sets are not equipped for synchronization with the grid network. The equipment required to synchronise a generator set with the mains is often not available or is prohibitively expensive. A controller for synchronising different types of generator sets with a grid network is disclosed. The controller is connected to a generator set by a communications link for the transmission of signals for controlling the operation of the generator set engine and for controlling the power generated by the generator. The controller has a master control unit which has several interfaces for converting generic control signals from the master control unit into signals specific to the generator set. An interfaces database having a look-up table may store interfaces for many different generator sets so that an operator can choose an interface for a particular generator set. The controller can be installed for use with different generator sets, irrespective of the make, model or brand of generator set. |
