The electric motor (2) has a motor housing (4) enclosing a stator and a rotor (8) and a separate electronics housing (6) enclosing the control electronics (56) for the motor, which is secured to a motor flange (10) provided by a section of the motor housing, a section (20) of the electronics housing providing an intermediate flange for mounting the electric motor. The motor flange may be provided as a stator plate cooperating with a bell-shaped outer rotor.
