PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source system which has a wide dimming range without shortening the lifetime of a light source. SOLUTION: In a display device, a time unit constituting an image is divided into a light validation time t1 when light can be represented as an image on a screen and a light invalidation time t2 when light cannot be represented as an image on the screen, and a power P1 in the light validation time t1 and a power P2 in the light invalidation time t2 are dynamically changed every frame or at intervals of several frames in accordance with luminance information so that T1*P1+T2*P2=P*(T1+T2) is true wherein: P is an average power resulting from averaging power in the time unit constituting the image; T1 is the proportion of the light validation time t1 in one frame of image data; and T2 is the proportion of the light invalidation time t2 in one frame, whereby the quantity of light capable of representing light as the image on the screen is adjusted.
