PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the waiting time up to the operation of the fuel cell of an automobile by shortening the starting time of an on-vehicle hydrogen detector. SOLUTION: The fuel cell is heated at the time of starting by power larger than usual power so as not to exceed a normal temperature and power is returned to usual power when the temperature of the fuel cell reaches the normal temperature to detect hydrogen.
