An image display device and an operating method thereof are provided to output the broadcasting signal of the non-preference channel during a short time before output of the broadcasting signal of the preference channel. When a preference channel selection request signal for tuning a preference channel is inputted(S310), one preference channel according to the tuning order among the registered plural preference channels is tuned and outputted(S320,S330). When the preference channel selection request signal is inputted again(S340), a non-preference channel between the tuned preference channel and the preference channel next to the preference channel is tuned and outputted during the critical time(S360). The preference channel corresponding to the next order is tuned and outputted(S370,S380). When there are plural non-preference channels, the plural non-preference channels are sequentially outputted during the critical time.
