The unit (1) has an adjusting lever (2) and a step-by-step switch transmission (3) for converting an actuation of the lever into a vertical adjustment of a seat i.e. vehicle seat. The adjusting lever and the transmission stand are in effective connection over an actuatable coupling unit (10), where the movement of the lever allows adjustment of height of the seat only in a coupled condition. The adjusting lever has an actuating unit (16) i.e. button (17, 17a), for actuating the coupling unit.
