Determining the position of mobile terminals in a mobile telephone network and uses therefor

The method involves storing a set of parameters to specify position-dependent receiving characteristics of a signal. The parameters together with information are stored for identifying a point of reception. Another set of parameters describing receiving characteristics of an actual received signal is received. The latter set of parameters is assigned to a mobile terminal (9). A position of the mobile terminal is determined by comparing the received parameters with the stored parameters.
