PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a recovery action to a nozzle from being wastefully started, and to reduce a waiting time for a user until completion of copying (duplication) by immediately starting the recovery action when the copying (duplication) is instructed. SOLUTION: The image recorder comprises: a maintenance unit for carrying out the recovery action of the nozzle in the jetting state; a control section for instructing execution or non-execution of the recovery action by the maintenance unit at a prescribed timing; and a copy key for instructing a manuscript reader to read a manuscript and a recording section to successively form an image according to the image data. When it is a time to instruct the execution of the recovery action after setting a manuscript (S101) and commanding the execution of the copying (S102), the recovery action (normal purging) by the maintenance unit (S104) is carried out in parallel with the reading action of the manuscript by the manuscript reader.
