An ECU(Electronic Control Unit) for performing self-diagnosis/recovery in a vehicle and an operation method thereof are provided to recover damaged information or check compatibility with a control program embedded in the ECU by diagnosing a RAM area storing driving information of the vehicle for various kinds of causes causing incorrect operation. A program memory(11) stores a control logic for electronically controlling each electronic device of a vehicle. An information recording memory(12) stores driving records, states of the electronic devices, and values needed when processing self-diagnosis/recovery. A sub regulator(14) transforms a predetermined voltage level output from a battery(16) into a predetermined operation voltage level and outputs always the operation voltage level to the information memory. A CPU(10) performs electronic control by reading the control logic from the program memory when a start switch(15) is turned on. The information memory includes a flag area storing the value used for checking separation of the battery, a checksum area storing a checksum value used for noise and integrity tests, a version area storing a control logic version value for a control logic compatibility test, and an information storing area storing the driving records and the states of the electronic devices. |
