668,301. Automatic gramophones. THORENS SOC. ANON., H. Feb. 23, 1949. [Feb. 28, 1948] No. 4931/49. Addition to 606,679. Class 40 (ii). An automatic record-changing gramophone of the kind described in the parent Specification which plays successively the underside of the lowermost record 9a of a stack 9 on a spindle 12, and then the upper surface of the record 9a, after it has been dropped over a lower spindle 20, is provided with a spring-urged pivoted member 10 to support the stack of records. A record is released by moving a shaft 19, Fig. 2, slidable in the spindle 12. The lower spindle 20 may be integral with a record support 21 which has a keying piece 22 to engage the turntable 5. The support 21 is preferably of smaller diameter than the records to be played, to allow them to be lifted easily by their edges. Records are placed on the top spindle by removing the support 21 placing the records on the spindle 20, returning the support, and then moving the records up over the member 10. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the lower spindle may be removably attached to the driving shaft 4, for loading the records, by a pin integral with the spindle shaft. The pick-up arm 7 is rotatable through 180 degrees. Upper and lower driving shafts 15, 4 are driven in opposite directions by separate motors. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also a construction in which the spindle 40, Fig. 4 (Cancelled), is rigid with the shaft 4 and the records are inserted by making the spindle 12 shorter or by raising the bracket 17<SP>1</SP> of the upper motor. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
