PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely separate paper P from a surface of a photoreceptor drum 10, reduce electrostatic scattering, and prevent fixing wrinkles, image blur, offset of image blur, and so on. SOLUTION: In a printer 100, a controller 70 controls a discharging device 18 so that the application of a discharge bias may be stopped in an area Y extending from a position that is some distance further forward from a distance X measured from the front end of the paper P, conveyed through a transfer area, toward its rear end, to a position some distance further backward beyond at least the distance X.
