PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine reducing starting failure due to bubbles in an intermediate spin-drying of a rinsing process by preventing a problem that a cleaning ratio is reduced by the bubbles in a washing process. SOLUTION: This drum type washing machine includes a rotating drum 20 rotatably disposed in a water tub 22 and having a horizontal rotation axis or a rotation axis inclined from the horizontal line, a drain outlet 33 provided in the bottom part of the water tub 22, a motor 24 rotatingly driving the rotating drum 20, a water supply means supplying wash water to the water tub 22, a drain means 34 draining the wash water in the water tank 22, a control means 43 executing the respective processes of washing, rinsing, and spin-drying, and a means for detecting the generation of excessive bubbles, wherein when the generation of the excessive bubbles is detected, the drain means 34 is closed to accumulate a prescribed amount of water in the tank 22, the rotating drum 20 is substantially stopped for a prescribed time, and then the drain means is opened to effectively discharge the bubbles while rotating the rotating drum 20 at a prescribed rotating speed.
