PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device whose operation function is easily limited by the manager of the optical disk device according to the type of an optical disk when desired, and its function setting method. SOLUTION: The optical disk device is provided with a storage means for registering an inhibited operation according to the type of an optical disk, a discrimination means for discriminating the type of an optical disk housed in the device, an input means for inputting the command of recording or reproducing information in the optical disk, and a control means for controlling so as to inhibit the use of the optical disk when an inhibited operation for the optical disk of the discriminated type is instructed.
