A method and an apparatus for providing a game service in a portable terminal are provided to form a local area wireless communication network between plural portable terminal users, and provide a multipoint network game service by using the formed local area wireless communication network. A game service providing method of a portable terminal comprises the following steps of: setting a game in a first portable terminal; searching one or more second portable terminals for simultaneously performing the set game; forming local area wireless communication between the one or more second portable terminals and the first portable terminal(S801); and performing the game between the one or more second portable terminals and the first portable terminal(S811).
