The invention relates to benzimidazole-carboxamide 5-HT<sub>4</sub> receptor agonist compounds of formula (I), wherein R<sup>1</sup> and X are as defined in the specification, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate or stereoisomer thereof.
