PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a CIS (contact image sensor) reading unit which efficiently reads in a both-sided color image document. SOLUTION: The CIS reading unit comprises R (red), G (green) and B (blue) line sensors 3 arrayed having different colors in the sub-scanning direction of a document to be read in and the same colors in a main scanning direction, an RB data bus switching unit 7 which performs first replacement processing wherein image data read in by the RGB line sensors 3 are passed having two of the colors replaced with each other and the remaining one color not replaced, an inter-line correction unit 8 which outputs the image data of three R, G, and B colors replaced through the first replacement processing by the RB data bus switching unit 7 as a set of RGB data, and an RB data bus switching unit 9 which receives the image data processed by inter-line correction by the inter-line correcting unit 8, replaces again the image data of the two colors replaced by the first replacement processing, and outputs the image data.
